How do we get started?
A free, no-obligation, 30-minute Zoom call to discuss if I might be able to help. I’ll ask you a few bits about your background, and I can answer any questions you might have.
This is to see if we’re the right fit. If I’m not the right therapist for you, I should be able to make a recommendation for some other excellent services available for people who stammer. Residential courses, charities, self-help books; there’s a whole host of helpful things out there which I’ve recommended over the years.
If you’d still like to go ahead with 1:1 therapy, then we’ll need to book in an initial consultation*. This lasts for 1 hour, and consists of some standardised language tests taken from the CELF-5 (Clinical Evaluation of Language Fundamentals), and some speech tasks which I’ll make audio recordings of
Most importantly I’ll want to know your thoughts about your speech and what you’d like to achieve. To help us establish some baseline levels and set therapy goals you’ll be given an OASES (Overall Assessment of the Speaker’s Experience of Stuttering) to complete at home.
After a 30-minute follow-up call to discuss findings and recommendations, we can then decide whether we’d like to proceed with a course of Speech and Language Therapy. Most clients opt to book a block of 6 sessions at a time, though you can also decide to proceed with sessions on an individual basis
Drop me a message on the Contact Form to book your free Zoom call - I look forward to working with you.
*In some cases (eg EHCP applications, employment tribunals), a longer formal assessment may be required, which will be accompanied by a ten-page report
